Community Responsibility
- Social responsibility means that businesses, in addition to maximizing shareholder value, must act in a manner benefiting society, not just the bottom line.
- In Africa and worldwide, social responsibility has become increasingly important to investors and consumers who seek investments that not only are profitable but also contribute to the welfare of the Community and the Environment. While critics have traditionally argued that the basic nature of Tourism Business does not consider Society as a Stakeholder, Younger Generations are embracing social responsibility and driving change.
- The African Tourism Showcase has adopted Corporate Social Responsibility in all its traditional four categories: environmental, philanthropic, ethical, and economic responsibility.
- Environmental Responsibility – reduce environmental harmful practices, promote renewable energies and offset environmental impact.
- Ethical Responsibility - ensuring ATS operates in a fair and ethical manner, employs local people, fair employment issues, local raw inputs and equal opportunities.
- Philanthropic Responsibility – for ATS to give back and have a positive impact on society.
- Economic Responsibility – that ATS backs all of its financial decisions in its commitment to do good in the areas listed above.
- The African Tourism Showcase encourages responsible tourism development by offering community support and biodiversity management that enhance natural and cultural experiences thereby maximising access and benefit sharing.
